As we look ahead to the work of strengthening worker power in the Bay Area – from a just recovery, to affordable housing, to tackling the climate crisis – we must continue investing in each other.

Jobs with Justice 2019 Gala: Celebrate with Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez

  • Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

6:00pm Dinner and Program

Join us and Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, champion of AB 5, at our 2019 Gala to celebrate our biggest victories!

The labor movement just had one of its biggest wins – passing AB 5 and securing rights for at least a million workers statewide who have been misclassified by their employers and cheated out of minimum wage, overtime, workers compensation and other protections.

This year’s big wins came from the power of us — domestic workers joining rideshare drivers in Sacramento to pass AB 5; students, families and educators standing together on strike lines; and community and faculty ensuring City College remains free for ten more years

Individual tickets: $25-$100 sliding scaleclick here to purchase.

Bryan Stevenson: “America’s young Nelson Mandela.”

Bryan Stevenson is one of the country's most visionary legal thinkers and social justice advocates. A MacArthur fellow, he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a law practice dedicated to defending some of America’s most rejected and marginalized people. A founding leader of the movement against mass incarceration in the United States, he recently served on President Obama's task force on 21st-century policing. His memoir, Just Mercy, is the story of a young lawyer fighting on the frontlines of a country in thrall to extreme punishments and careless justice. It is an inspiring story of unbreakable humanity in the most desperate circumstances, and a powerful indictment of our broken justice system and the twisted values that allow it to continue.

Stevenson has received numerous awards including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant and the NAACP Image Award for Best Non-Fiction, and was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People for 2015. He is a tenured law professor at New York University School of Law.

(Bryan Stevenson is) “America’s young Nelson Mandela.”
